Frequently Asked Questions
The Basics of Vehicle Wrapping
What exactly is a vehicle wrap? A vehicle wrap involves applying a specialized, high-quality vinyl film to your vehicle’s body panels. It allows you to completely change the colour and look of your car without the need for a permanent (and expensive) respray. It covers your original paintwork, acting as a second skin.
Does wrapping damage my car’s original paint? Not at all. In fact, it does the opposite! The vinyl acts as a protective shield against stone chips, minor abrasions, and UV fading. If you decide to remove the wrap later—provided your original paint was sound when we applied it—your paintwork will look just as fresh as the day it was wrapped.
Is it legal? Do I need to tell the DVLA? Yes, vehicle wrapping is fully legal. However, if you change the colour of your vehicle (e.g., from blue to matte black), you legally must notify the DVLA and your insurance provider. It is usually a simple administrative update, but failing to do so can invalidate your policy.
Durability & The Process
How long does a vehicle wrap last? With proper care, a high-quality wrap typically lasts between 5 to 7 years. Vertical surfaces (like doors) often last longer than horizontal surfaces (like bonnets and roofs) which take more direct sunlight. We use premium vinyls to ensure maximum longevity for our Leeds customers.
How long does the wrapping process take? Quality takes time. A full colour change usually takes 3 to 5 days.
-
Day 1: Deep cleaning and de-contamination (removing tar, grease, and dirt).
-
Day 2-4: The meticulous wrapping process, including removing necessary trim (door handles, mirrors) for a seamless finish.
-
Day 5: Re-assembly and final quality inspection.
Do you offer a warranty? Yes. At Ninety Six Automotive, we stand by our craftsmanship. We typically offer a warranty on our installation work, alongside the manufacturer's warranty on the vinyl material itself (against fading or failure). [Note: You can specify your exact terms here, e.g., "12-month installation warranty"].
Care & Maintenance
Can I wash my wrapped car? Yes, but hand washing is highly recommended to keep the vinyl looking pristine.
-
Avoid: Automatic mechanical car washes with stiff bristles, as these can scratch the vinyl and lift edges.
-
Use: pH-neutral shampoos and soft lambswool mitts.
-
Pressure Washers: Use with caution. Keep the nozzle at least 30cm away and avoid spraying directly at the edges of the vinyl.
Can you wrap a car with damaged paint or rust? Vinyl is very thin—it will not hide deep scratches, stone chips, or rust patches. In fact, it can sometimes highlight imperfections. For the best finish, we recommend your paintwork be smooth and free of defects before you bring it in. If you have concerns, pop down to our Leeds workshop and we can assess it together.
Is the wrap easy to remove? Yes, provided it is removed by a professional within its lifespan. We can remove the vinyl using heat and specialist techniques to reveal your original paint underneath.
Customisation & Cost
How much does a vehicle wrap cost? Every job is unique. Prices depend on the size of the vehicle, the complexity of the body shape, and the specific material chosen (e.g., standard gloss vs. chrome or colour-flip).
-
Small cars/partial wraps: Generally start from a lower entry point.
-
Full colour changes: Typically range from £1,500 - £3,000+ depending on the finish.

What finishes do you have available? The options are nearly endless. We offer:
-
Gloss & Matte: Standard colours for a sleek look.
-
Satin: A beautiful middle-ground between gloss and matte.
-
Colour Flip/Pearlescent: Changes colour depending on the angle and light.
-
Textured: Carbon fibre, brushed metal, and more.
Do you wrap door shuts and interiors? A standard "exterior" wrap covers all visible paintwork when the doors are closed. Wrapping the "shuts" (the inside metal around the door frame) takes significantly more time and material, so it is available as a premium add-on if you want a complete colour transformation.
